If you live in the UK and are interested in the Aurora Borealis (also known as the northern lights), you should download the AuroraWatch UK app. It is the best way to find out when you might be able to see them in the night sky.
AuroraWatch UK allows you to monitor the geomagnetic activity in the earth’s atmosphere. This is done by using the information from your mobile phone’s built-in magnetometer, which is used to measure the magnetic field strength. If there is a high concentration of particles in the air, the magnetometer will pick up a signal. This signal is then used to determine whether or not you are in an area where you are likely to see the Aurora Borealis.
If you want to be informed about the current status of the geomagnetic activity, you should install the AuroraWatch UK app. It will then automatically update the status of the alert level every 30 minutes. If the activity level is high, you will be notified and you will be given the details of the location where you are and the time you are in. If the activity level is low, you will not be notified.
